Meh.

I just spent three months trying out a little experiment. In a nutshell, I made a point to not only read more of the blog posts and articles I was electronically stashing away, but to share what I was reading, via my Unconventional Ink Facebook page. Well, a lot has happened in the last three months. I […]

Magpie + Octopi: Confessions of a Digital Collector

A lot of people make New Year’s resolutions — sometimes, I do, too — but I generally find that September, with its back-to-school energy and snappy autumn air, makes a better month for reevaluating priorities, setting intentions, and, at this moment: creating space. I did a fairly substantial purge of tangible stuff in the spring (including 8 boxes of […]

A Sunday Kind of Love: What’s Going On/What’s Happening Brother

Since I went off and got a full-time job, I’ve been a little more neglectful than usual about this blog. While Unconventional Ink isn’t going away, I do plan to do some recalibrating in this corner of cyberspace, for sure. But not today. Today, I’m just thinking about Marvin Gaye – for all sorts of […]

WHY I said Yes. And what’s next!

(insert dramatic voice-over: “previously, on Unconventional Ink …”) Last week, I dropped this bomb: This is the intro to the actual offer letter I received. For a JOB. As an EMPLOYEE. At A COMPANY. A company that I don’t own. It boggles the mind, or at least my mind, which is the mind of an […]

A Sunday Kind of Love: Snake

I don’t know that I’ve included any local music in my Sunday posts yet, which seems kind of crazy. I went to see Stella Luce play here in Fort Collins last night — they hadn’t done a show since August, and it made me realize how much I had missed them. This video isn’t from […]

A Sunday Kind of Love: The Chain

While I saw a lot of things I wanted to see at SXSW, I did not get to see Stevie Nicks speak, which bummed me out a little. You can only do so much. The first album I ever really owned was Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, and I listened to it over and over and over […]

A Sunday Kind of Love: SXSW 2013

My Sunday posts are typically intended to share brief musical tidbits only, but this Sunday marks the end of SXSW 2013, so I figured I’d take the opportunity to document what I’ve heard in the past four days here in Austin. Also a good time to capture it before I forget. Which seems implausible, but […]

A Sunday Kind of Love: Dark Star

I leave for SXSW on Tuesday, so I’m reflecting a bit on what I heard and loved in previous years. I saw Polica at an NPR showcase; I distinctly remember being covered in goosebumps despite the crowd and the Texas heat. Amazing voice. And they had me at 2 drummers. Yay, music!!

A Sunday Kind of Love: PRO*WHOA

I got 9+ hours of sleep last night. Caffeine-ing. Ready to high-kick Sunday into high gear. Nothing but chick power tunes blaring, starting with Nikka. Watch out, world. Inches away from digging up Liz Phair next.
